Unfortunately, scammers can create fake websites that look like official MHS GENESIS pages. These sites try to trick you into sharing personal or health information. The Defense Health Agency wants you to know how to spot these scam websites and what to do if you find one.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a nationwide Health Alert Network Health Advisory on Jan. 20 to share information about the New World screwworm, or NWS, and the recent increase in animal cases in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, which shares a border with Texas. Although no NWS infestations have been identified in people or animals in the U.S., there is potential for geographic spread. The advisory issued by the CDC is intended to increase awareness of the expanding NWS outbreak and provide recommendations to health departments and doctors in the U.S. as well as guidance for the general public.

FORT STEWART, Ga. — Medical personnel from Winn Army Community Hospital and Soldiers from across the 3rd Infantry Division enhanced their trauma care proficiency last week during the Rural Interactive Trauma Simulation Course, a hands-on training event designed to reinforce life-saving skills essential to battlefield medicine. The course, now in its pilot year, is facilitated by the Medical College of Georgia. The program exposes military medical providers to realistic trauma scenarios, particularly those common in remote or resource-limited environments. Lisa Tyler, nurse educator at Winn Army Community Hospital, said the training directly supports the hospital’s mission of preparing clinicians and warfighters for real-world emergencies.

The daily joy of a family meal turned into an emergency room visit, surgery, and an overnight hospital stay for retired Sergeant First Class Damien Dunn, a Soldier for Life and Winn Army Community Hospital beneficiary. “I’m eating dinner, and I was feeling pain in my kidneys,” Dunn said. “I didn’t know what it was and I tried to let that passover, but my wife said just go to the ER.” Dunn did the next morning, arriving at Winn’s emergency department. The healthcare team sprang into action, triaging him and charting the way ahead.

When her brother got sick as a child, only one thing offered him a small bit of comfort: a small stuffed animal that was there for him through his hospital stay. Today, Life Scout Reis Hill used that memory as the inspiration behind her Better Bears Eagle Scout project, donating more than 100 hand-made bears to Winn Army Community Hospital’s emergency department Sept. 2 to complete one of the final requirements to earn Scouting America’s highest award.
