Optometry

Mission

The Optometry service conserves the fighting strength and enables sustained Soldier readiness by providing the highest quality primary eye care to FSGA-HAAF Soldiers and support their families and eligible beneficiaries within the constraints of available personnel, equipment, and facilities.

Eligibility

Patients eligible for appointments in the Department of Optometry: 

  • All Active Duty TRICARE Prime service members.

The following are seen on space available basis:

  • Active duty family members 6 years and older.
  • TRICARE For Life
  • TRICARE Prime retirees and their dependents.
  • TRICARE eligible patients enrolled in another military treatment facility who are on TDY or traveling needing acute care.

Services Provided

  • Comprehensive eye exams
  • Exams for military physicals are performed on a walk-in basis during appointed times
  • Military issue optical (active duty and retiree only)
  • Diabetic dilated eye exams
  • Acute care
    • New Patients: Referred by Primary Care Manager to appropriate optometry clinic (same day access available)
    • Established Patients: Report to optometry clinic where routine care is received
  • Limited contact lens services (current wearers with lenses)
 Patients can schedule a routine exam or follow-up by calling the appointment line at 571-802-0394 or 1-800- 652-9221 or using the TRICARE Online Patient Portal at http://www.tricareonline.com.

Walk-In Services

  • Physicals
  • Military spectacle ordering, pick-up, and adjustment
  • Soldier Readiness Unit (SRU) screenings (formerly WTU)
  • MEDPROS Updates
  • Driver’s license screening

  Comprehensive Primary Eye Care

  • Comprehensive visual and ocular health assessments to include eye health, accommodative and binocular disorders, and prescriptions for glasses.
  • Evaluation and treatment for ocular trauma and eye diseases such as glaucoma, keratoconus, dry eyes, conjunctivitis, keratitis, and blepharitis.

Limited Contact Lens Services

  • An exam of your vision and the health of your eyes to ensure safe contact lens wear.
  • Therapeutic contact lens fitting for medical diagnosed eye disease.
  • Contact lens fitting possible on a case-by-case basis, if patient is currently wearing lenses, has the most recent prescription, and one set of lenses. Please bring this information and lenses with you to your exam.
  • Cosmetic contact lens exams are not a TRICARE covered benefit; however, all Winn Optometrists are trained and licensed to complete contact lens exams. You can discuss contact lens options with your eye care provider during the Routine eye exam
