Colonel Margaret Berryman

Colonel Margaret S. Berryman was born in Poland and immigrated to the United States in 1988. While in high school, she enlisted in the US Army National Guard and completed her Combat Medic (91B) training in the summer of 1998. She was awarded an ROTC scholarship and attended Marion Military Institute, where she earned her associate degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army National Guard. She then attended New York University, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and was commissioned into the Army Nurse Corps in 2004. Berryman holds a Master of Science in Nursing as an adult clinical nurse specialist from the University of Hawaii and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. She is board certified as an adult health clinical nurse specialist.
Berryman has served in hospital-based, joint, and operational assignments. Her assignments include Clinical Staff Nurse on an orthopedic ward, Clinical Nurse Officer in Charge (CNOIC), and company commander at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C., 2004-2008; brigade nurse, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division (Airborne), Anchorage, Alaska, and deployed to Afghanistan (FOB Sharana) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 2008-2011; Clinical nurse specialist at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, 2013-2014; Deputy Chief of Clinical Operations for the Office of the Command Surgeon, US Indo-Pacific Command, Camp Smith, Hawaii, 2014-2015; chief nurse, Department of Primary Care, Martin Army Community Hospital, Fort Moore, Georgia, where she deployed to Puerto Rico in support of the hurricane medical relief effort 2015-2018; executive officer, Office of the Commandant, at the Medical Center of Excellence, Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, 2018-2020; commander, McDonald Army Health Center, Fort Eustis, Virginia, 2021-2023; and Army Nurse Corps Specific Branch Proponent Officer, Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, 2023-2024.
Berryman’s military education includes the U.S. Army War College fellowship with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Intermediate-Level Education, Interagency Institute for Federal Health Leaders Course, Military Health System capstone course, pre-command courses, Iron Major course, Asia Pacific Regional Strategies for Health and Security course, and the Uniformed Services University Medical Executive Skills Course.
Her military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (four Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (four Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal. She holds the Parachute Badge, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, and Armed Forces Service Medal. Berryman is a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit (O2M3).
