Winn ACH celebrates addition of pharmacy clean room supporting patients, combat readiness

A project eight years in the making had its ribbon cutting ceremony Oct. 2 at Winn Army Community Hospital. With a celebration complete with oversized scissors, a purple ribbon, balloons, confetti and chocolate cake, staff and pharmacy specialists celebrated the official opening of the hospital’s inpatient pharmacy clean room. The facility ensures the safe preparation of sterile medicines, including intravenous drugs, for inpatient use.

Army Reserve medical unit helps Winn weather Debby, continue patient care

Soldiers from the Army Reserve joined forces with their active-duty counterparts and civilian staff at Winn Army Community Hospital to maintain seamless operations in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Debby. Reservists from the 7459th Medical Operations Readiness Unit are currently undergoing training at Winn Army Community Hospital. The MORU provided continuity of patient care following the tropical storm.

Winn Army Community Hospital welcomes new commander

Col. Jason Seery passed command of the U.S. Army Department Medical Activity and the directorship of Winn Army Community Hospital to Col. Margaret Berryman June 26 at Fort Stewart’s Cottrell Field. The ceremony of full military pomp and circumstance included sound-off and pass-in-review under the midmorning coastal Georgia sun. Berryman comes to Fort Stewart from the Medical Center of Excellence at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, where she served as the Army Nurse Corps Specific Branch Proponent Officer. Seery is moving on to a position at the U.S. Army Human Resources Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Army Sports Team Camp focuses on recovery, camaraderie, competition

With shouts of “ball ball ball!” and choreographed movements, 18 Soldiers and veterans in recovery ran rugby passing drills inside of Fort Stewart’s Newman Gym May 23. But instead of using their feet to run, the athletes used their hands to steer rugby wheelchairs specifically designed for the sport. All while looking for the next pass and catching it. It’s a combination of strength, coordination and teamwork. The 18 rugby athletes are part of a 40-Soldier team that practiced at Fort Stewart before competing for the Army in the DoD Warrior Games June 21-30 in Orlando, Florida. Winn Army Community Hospital’s Soldier Recovery Unit sponsored the Army team for an Army Sports Team Camp, part of the Army Recovery Care Program. The weeklong camp ended May 24 and included practices for other adaptive team sports as well as learning sessions about mobility, nutrition and sports psychology.

Avoiding sharp sticks, infections

When working in medical and dental spaces, there are sometimes risk of accidental skin puncture, when needles, dental burrs (the drill bits), scalpels, and other items – referred to as sharps are involved. Which means there is also the risk of infection.
